Welcome to the Powerful Teaching and Learning Blog. This undertaking is part of a major overhaul to our website. Feel free to look around—we’re really excited about the changes! Huge thanks goes out to our amazing web designer, Portland-based Mark Wyner of Mark Wyner Design who really nailed it. We envision this blog as as a place for ongoing, open communication about all kinds of things related to educational reform and professional development. When we founded PTL we did so with a single, simple belief: that Powerful Teaching and Learning practices could transform the way people learn and teach, and create significant and lasting improvement in schools. Our goal is to continue to develop new and effective ways to bring those practices into schools and create sustainable internal support networks to foster the growth, change and ongoing improvement in student achievement levels. The most important component of paving the way for real change is ongoing communication. As educators, we are exposed daily to the most valuable knowledge available and it comes from the daily lessons that are learned in the classroom. One of the most successful ways to improve as a teacher is to spend time improving as a learner. Listening to each other, sharing stories and successes, and consciously evaluating the lessons that we can learn from our collective experiences is essential to improving and moving forward. In this blog you can expect to discover helpful tools and tips, inspiring and motivational stories from your peers (and others), and valuable information about the latest in the reform movement. Basically, it’s a window into our collective minds—and we spend a lot of time thinking about what’s best for schools and educators. We hope you’ll enjoy reading and we encourage you to join in the dialogue in the comments section. Best, Heather Knight Vice President, PTL
